What We Do / Design for Manufacture
Design for Manufacture
Designed to be made.
Built to perform.
A complete design for manufacture service from our in-house team of design technicians. Working in SolidWorks, we design & refine components and products for cost, fabrication and repeatability before anything hits the workshop floor.
Our expert team based at our headquarters in Waterlooville.
Capabilities
What we cover.
Our design technicians work across the sectors where performance is non-negotiable – telecommunications, broadcast, rail, highways and emerging applications like hydrogen refuelling.
How we work
Design that starts
with the application.
Bring a finished drawing, a sketch or an idea. Use us for design alone, or as part of the full turn-key process.
Brompton Bike Hire
Iconic, Innovative. That's Brompton Bike Hire.
For Brompton, we deliver consistent manufacturing and installation at scale. As their UK manufacturing partner, we're helping people move around cities more sustainably.
Frequently asked questions
What is design for manufacture?
Design for manufacture (DFM) is the process of designing components and products so they can be produced efficiently, consistently and cost-effectively. At ICEE, our in-house design team applies DFM before production begins, refining material choices, tolerances and fabrication details so products are practical to make and reliable in service.
Do I need finished drawings to use your design service?
No. We can work from finished technical drawings, rough sketches, existing samples or an early-stage concept. Our design technicians will develop your idea into production-ready drawings and 3D models in SolidWorks.
Can you improve an existing design?
Yes. We regularly review existing components and enclosures for cost, material and fabrication improvements, including reducing part counts, simplifying welds and folds, and designing around standard material sizes.
Is design a standalone service or part of manufacturing?
Both. Use our design team as a stand-alone service, or as part of a complete turn-key design and fabrication process. Designing and manufacturing under one roof gives you full traceability of your product from concept to delivery.
What accreditations does ICEE hold?
ICEE is ISO 9001:2015 certified and JOSCAR and RISQS registered, so every design and manufacturing project is delivered under an audited quality management system. See our accreditations page for full details.
